THE MAD MAN
KHALIL GIBRAN
Last night I invented a new pleasure, and as I was giving it the first trial an angel and a devil came rushing toward my house. They met at my door and fought with each other over my newly created pleasure; the one crying, “It is a sin!”--the other, “It is a virtue!”

Interpretation
My interpretation of "The New Pleasure" revolves around the idea of emotions. The new pleasure is the act of crying.
The narrator categorizes the act of crying as a pleasure because it can relieving to cry and let out your fears and emotion out. The Angel and Devil fought over this because one enjoys invoking pain and the other seeks to heal pain.
