Interpretation of Key Terms

To further understand Gibran’s poems we must first get a grasp on key terminology used in his pieces. It is important to avoid misinterpretation and define key terms. According to the Merriam Webster online dictionary, the terms appear as follows:
Literature: Writings in which expression and form, in connection with ideas of permanent and universal interest are characteristic or essential features, as poetry, novels, history, biography, and essays.
Analysis: The separating of any material or abstract-entity into its consistent elements.
Poetry: The art of rhythmical composition, written or spoken, for exciting pleasure by beautiful, imaginative, or elevated thoughts.
Figurative Language: Langauge that contains or uses figures of speech, especially metaphors.
